An Overview of Racial Health Disparities

This continuing educational activity is designed to assist participants in determining the definition of race and racism. It will include a discussion of institutional racism in health and medicine. Strategies and tools to mitigate personal biases and confront racism in healthcare will be presented.

Opioids 2023 Updates

This educational activity (training video) and the goal of this Grand Rounds, is to describe the current state of addiction and opiate use disorder in the United States. Specifically, the biology, psychology, social/spiritual elements will be discussed. Also, the current changes in the DEA regulations surrounding the X-waiver will be discussed. Lastly, buprenorphine induction will be discussed from a clinical perspective. In order to receive full credit, participants must view the entire training video. At the end of the training video, please return to this page to complete a multiple choice test. Participants must also complete the online post-activity course evaluation form to receive credit.

Opioid Management

Identifying & Managing Your Own Implicit Bias to Improve Health Outcomes

This educational activity is designed to enable health care providers to embrace the fact that we all have biases and appreciate that unconscious biases are more prevalent than conscious ones. Implicit bias is prevalent and can be a driver for health care disparities, and unequal health outcomes. Awareness of the potential of one’s biases is the first step to address it. This timely course will present insightful strategies to de-bias patient care, which include training, intergroup contact, and counter-stereotypical exemplars. The Implicit Association Test (Project Implicit) will be described.

Communication, Conversation, and Serious Illness. Preparing for End of Life.

This educational activity is designed to provide in-depth communication techniques and conversation skills in working with patients with serious illness. The COVID-19 pandemic exposed the need for earlier and more quality conversations. These conversations are a necessary part of healthcare. It is important to gain an understanding of a patient’s goals and values to provide them with patient-centered care. This video will provide several different tools and techniques for quality conversations with patients and families.

Review of Monkeypox Infection

This educational activity will focus on an update and review of Monkeypox infection. Monkeypox virus belongs to the Orthopoxvirus genus in the Poxviridae family. Beginning May 2022, Monkeypox cases were reported in England. As of June 24, 2022, more than 4,100 cases have been reported from over 47 countries worldwide, including more than 200 confirmed cases in the United States. In the United States, evidence of person-to-person disease transmission in multiple states and reports of clinical cases with some uncharacteristic features have raised concern that some cases are not being recognized and tested.

Jersey Shore University Medical Center 2022 Virtual Stroke Symposium

First Annual Pediatric Orthopedic Symposium Musculoskeletal Challenges in the Pediatric Population

This pediatric orthopedic symposium was designed collaboratively to provide physicians, rehabilitation therapists, PAs, APNs, RNs and other healthcare providers with an increased understanding of treating musculoskeletal challenges in the pediatric population. This course will address the medical and surgical management of scoliosis, the diagnosis and management of mucopolysacchatidosis, and the role of calcium and phosphate in skeletal malformations. This course will provide participants with an appreciation of prompt diagnostic identification, new surgical interventions, and best practice intervention management.

The 2021 William I. Riker Oncology Symposium: Emotional, Psychological, and Physical Effects of Covid-19 on Patients with Critical Illness

Critically ill patients are at higher risk of complications related to COVID-19. Health care providers will be exposed to emerging data in basic, clinical translational and epidemiological research related to COVID-19. This course reviews how health care workers support terminally ill patients impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and explores how isolation affects patients mentally, physically and emotionally.
