Arif Asif, M.D., has been promoted to assistant chief medical officer of Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
Continuing his duties as chair of Medicine, in his new, role Dr. Asif will apply his leadership to several clinical initiatives including discharge to Home and Length of Stay, while taking on a larger scope of the support and administration of the medical staff.
Over the past three years, Dr. Asif has played a vital role in the Jersey Shore’s medical leadership team and made significant contributions to the growth of the academic and research programs. Under his leadership, the Department of Medicine has had unprecedented success establishing five ACGME accredited fellowship programs (cardiology, nephrology, pulmonary, endocrinology and critical care) and publishing over 50 articles.
Dr. Asif’s prior experience
Dr. Asif completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center at the University of Illinois in Chicago and fellowship in Nephrology and Hypertension from University of Miami, FL. He has also completed a Master’s program in business administration and healthcare management (MHCM) from Harvard University.
Prior to Jersey Shore, Dr. Asif served as chief of Nephrology and Hypertension and professor of Medicine at Albany Medical College in Albany, New York, and chief of Interventional Nephrology at the University Of Miami Miller School Of Medicine in Florida.
He has received multiple leadership, mentorship and teaching awards and served as the president of the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology.
