- Robert C. Garrett, FACHE, chief executive officer of Hackensack Meridian Health, has been named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s Great Healthcare Leaders to Know 2023 list.
- He was recognized for his visionary leadership, which has led Hackensack Meridian Health to make significant advances in innovation, research, education, as well as diversity, equity and inclusion.
HMH has made major progress as a health system under Mr. Garrett’s leadership. He led efforts to open the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine, the first private medical school in New Jersey in 60 years, which focuses on educating medical students about the social determinants of health and diversifying the next generation of physicians. The health system also opened the Center for Discovery and Innovation, a state-of-the-art facility which offers support to world-renowned researchers to develop novel therapies for some of the world’s most difficult-to-treat diseases.
A thought leader in the healthcare industry, Mr. Garrett also recently joined an international panel of experts at the United Nations to help develop global standards for healthcare providers to identify and aid victims of human trafficking.
