Mark D. Sparta, FACHE, has been named president, Northern Region, reporting directly to the chief operating officer.
As president, Northern Region, Mark will lead efforts to enhance our ambulatory strategy in the north and manage the joint venture relationships with Mountainside Medical Center, Pascack Valley Medical Center and the St. Joseph’s Health partnership. In addition, he will be responsible for managing the transformation at Palisades Medical Center. Mark will continue with his current responsibilities as president and chief hospital executive of Hackensack University Medical Center.
Mark serves on numerous non-profit boards, including the Meadowlands Regional Chamber of Commerce and the New Jersey Hospital Association - Policy Development Committee. Most recently, he was included in Becker’s Hospital Review’s 2022 “58 Population Health Executives to Know” list.
Mark has led the Hackensack University Medical Center’s response to COVID-19. Under his leadership, Hackensack University Medical Center is the only hospital in New Jersey with the #1 adult and #1 children’s hospital rankings by U.S. News & World Report.
Mark joined Hackensack University Medical Center in 1988. He has served as executive vice president, chief operating officer and senior operations officer for the medical center. In addition, he was acting CEO of Hackensack Meridian Health Pascack Valley Medical Center from November 2014 to June 2015. Earlier in his career, he was a practicing physical therapist.
Mark holds a Bachelor of Science in physical therapy from Ithaca College and a Master of Public Administration in health policy and management from Seton Hall University. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and is board-certified in Healthcare Management.
