Hackensack Meridian Health announced that Hackensack University Medical Center has once again been named the #1 hospital in New Jersey and among the top hospitals in the New York-New Jersey Metro Area by U.S. News & World Report, solidifying its position as one of the region's preeminent healthcare networks. Additionally, Hackensack University Medical Center has the #1 and only nationally ranked cancer program in New Jersey, earning the #6 ranking in the New York-New Jersey metropolitan area and #38 nationally in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2026-2027 Best Hospitals list.
The recognition reflects HMH’s continued leadership in advancing cancer care through groundbreaking research, innovative therapies, and multidisciplinary treatment.
Hackensack University Medical Center continues to demonstrate excellence across multiple clinical disciplines. The medical center ranks among the top 10 percent of hospitals nationally in seven adult specialties:
- Cancer (#38, tie)
- Cardiology, Heart & Vascular Surgery (#45 nationally)
- Diabetes & Endocrinology (#43 nationally)
- Neurology & Neurosurgery (#34 nationally)
- Orthopedics (#14 nationally)

In addition to receiving more nationally ranked specialties than any other health network in New Jersey, several HMH hospitals earned statewide and national recognition in this year's rankings:
- JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute is once again one of the nation’s best physical rehabilitation hospitals, ranked #2 in New Jersey and a Top 10 rehabilitation program in the New York-New Jersey Metropolitan Area. JRI is also nationally ranked for rehabilitation for the eighth straight year.
- Jersey Shore University Medical Center is once again ranked a Top 10 hospital in New Jersey.
- Ocean University Medical Center and Riverview Medical Center each earned recognition as a Top 10 rehabilitation program in the New York-New Jersey Metropolitan Area.
The annual U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings are designed to help patients and their physicians make informed decisions about where to receive care for complex health conditions and specialized procedures. These rankings are based on objective, independently reported data, including quality measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), rather than information influenced by hospitals themselves. Eight HMH hospitals earned elite ratings from CMS earlier this year, underscoring the network's commitment to providing exceptional, patient-centered care.
