What You Need To Know
Palisades Medical Center opened the doors to a smarter, faster, and more comfortable emergency care experience.
The newly designed space, the first of its kind in NJ, and the first step in a $50 million investment to transform emergency services for the Hudson and southern Bergen county communities. It’s engineered to improve patient flow, dramatically reduce wait times, and elevate the patient experience through innovative design and increased efficiency.
Phase One introduces two modern triage rooms to expedite initial medical assessments, eight new private treatment rooms, and 15 versatile treatment positions arranged in unique design called "flower pods".
Key features of the new design include:
- A More Personal Space: The semi-enclosed pods with curved walls act as acoustic barriers to reduce noise. This creates a calmer, more personal space for patients and their families.
- Decentralized, Faster Care: The pods are arranged in small clusters, each with its own support areas. This layout significantly reduces the distance nurses and staff must travel, allowing them to reach patients more quickly.
- A Less Intimidating Environment: Medical equipment like oxygen and monitors is neatly housed within the pod walls, hidden from direct view. This helps create a less clinical, "un-hospital-like" atmosphere to reduce patient anxiety.
- Efficient Treatment for Minor Issues: For patients with less severe conditions, this new “Fast Track Unit” allows them to be cared for in comfortable convertible stretchers, all of which improve the process for everyone.
This opening is just the first part of a much larger vision. The full project, which will also include dedicated, secure areas for both pediatric and behavioral health patients, is slated for completion in late 2026 and will double the size of the emergency department to 22,000 square feet, bringing the total number of treatment positions to 50. This major investment represents a significant step forward in the medical center's commitment to providing world-class care to New Jersey..
