
The Helena Theurer Pavilion, New Jersey's first smart surgical and intensive care tower, is now open. Check out the photo gallery and video tour below of the new pavilion.
The 9-story tower is complete and welcomed its first patients at the end of 2022. This 530,000-square-foot facility brings the following to Hackensack University Medical Center's campus:
- 24 operating rooms
- 72 post-anesthesia care unit beds
- 50 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds
- 175 medical/surgical beds including a Musculoskeletal Institute & step-down intermediate care rooms
The Helena Theurer Pavilion design was modified during the pandemic so that with just the flip of a switch, the entire Pavilion can be converted to a negative-pressure facility, further protecting patients from airborne infectious illnesses.
A variety of procedures are being performed there, including:
- Bariatric
- Cardiothoracic
- Colorectal
- General surgery
- Neurosurgery
- Orthopedics & Spine
- Robotics
- Organ Transplantation
- Urology
The new operating rooms are equipped with the following features:
- Intraoperative MRI capabilities allow for increased surgical innovation.
- 6 advanced da Vinci robotic surgical systems, including one single port system.
- 4 orthopedic robots for joint replacement procedures.
- Large monitors in each Operating Room make it easier for surgeons to see patient images.
- Live streaming capability in all Operating Rooms, promoting education and communication between surgeons.
- Pathology lab located near OR for improved collaboration and time-sensitive care.
