Sixty-three students from the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine are now doctors and are starting their residencies.
The medical students came from the inaugural 2018 cohort of the medical school (34 students) and the 2019 cohort (29 students).
The commencement’s keynote was delivered by Dr. Cornel West, the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Chair at Union Theological Seminary.
More than half of the graduates will serve residencies in Hackensack Meridian Health hospitals. Residencies for this year include: Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania - Emergency Medicine; the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai - Mount Sinai Hospital - Internal Medicine; Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education - Orthopedic Surgery.
Last year, the inaugural commencement ceremony featured the first 18 students from the inaugural class who then went onto residencies across the Hackensack Meridian Health network.
Applications and enrollments have increased since the school's founding. The School of Medicine’s inaugural class in 2018 included 60 students. The latest incoming class includes more than 160 admitted from more than 6,000 candidates.
