What you need to know

The Pediatric Intensive Care units (PICU) of Jersey Shore’s K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital and Hackensack’s Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital have surpassed the 1,000-day milestone without a Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infection (CLABSI).

Sanzari reached the 1,000-day milestone without a CLABSI on July 25. As of July 29, K. Hovnanian’s streak had reached 1,186 days. In addition, as of July 25, K. Hovnanian had a 1,174-day streak going without a Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI), and Sanzari’s non-CAUTI streak had reached 512 days.

This achievement is thanks to the "scrub the hub" initiative developed through the work of a 15-year national PICU collaborative.

Dr. Mark Siegel, division director of Sanzari’s multidisciplinary anti-CLABSI team, and Dr. Harpreet Pall, K.Hovnanian’s chair of Pediatrics, are leading this effort at their hospitals..
