HMHP Expands Successful Prescription Initiative

Hackensack Meridian Health Partners is expanding its successful generic prescription initiative. In the coming weeks, Hackensack Meridian Health Medical Group offices will be receiving a list noting any Horizon and United Healthcare patients identified as having a claim for a brand-name prescription claim where a generic version is commercially available. These patients will also receive a personalized letter, informing them that a generic version of their medication is available. This initiative will be expanded to independent offices in the coming months.

Nearly $500,000 in savings

This initiative was launched last year and focused on Horizon OMNIA patients. To date this project has led to nearly half of the identified prescriptions switching from brand-name to generic medications, resulting in nearly $500,000 in estimated annual savings. Below are examples of possible savings achieved when switching from a brand-name to generic medication. Please note the numbers listed are relative costs and may vary among pharmacies.
