ContrastEnhanced Mammography Technology Now Available at Riverview Medical Center

What You Need To Know
- Riverview Medical Center’s Women’s Center is the only hospital in the HMH network to offer CEM and CEM-directed biopsies.
- Contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) combines high-resolution digital 3D mammography with the functional imaging of contrast.
- The exam takes about 10-15 minutes to complete, with the only risk being an allergic reaction to the contrast, which has a reported incidence of 0.2-0.4%.
Helps Improve Breast Cancer Detection
The new CEM technology will enhance breast cancer visualization, detection and accuracy for patients who:
- Are unable to undergo MRI due to insurance issues, obesity, implanted devices, or other concerns.
- Are at increased risk for breast cancer due to dense breasts, family or personal history, and prior high-risk biopsy results.
- Receive uncertain findings on conventional mammography and ultrasound.
- Need further imaging assessment of clinical findings.
- Have been diagnosed with breast cancer and need additional imaging to determine the extent of disease.
- Are receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy and need an imaging follow-up to monitor response to treatment.
