Dr. John Liantonio, M.D., joins Hackensack Meridian Health’s Palliative Care Services team as Network Medical Director beginning October 2024. As director, Dr. Liantonio will aid in the development of an integrated network approach to Palliative Care.
Dr. Liantonio began his medical training at Ross University School of Medicine before completing his internship and residency in family medicine at Hahnemann University Hospital and Drexel University School of Medicine. He has also completed a geriatric medicine fellowship as well as a hospice and palliative medicine fellowship. In 2019, Dr. Liantonio completed his MBA at Temple University. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, a Fellow of the American Academia of Family Physicians, and is hospice medical director certified.
Upon completing his medical training in 2015, Dr. Liantonio joined the Department of Family and Community Medicine in the Division of Geriatrics and Palliative Care at Jefferson University Hospital and Sidney Kimmel Medical College as attending physician and faculty. He later became the director of the inpatient Palliative Care Consultation Service across three hospitals within the Jefferson Health system, was the founding fellowship director for Hospice and Palliative Medicine and the inaugural Division Director for Palliative Care. Additionally, Dr. Liantonio has spent the past nine years as an attending Physician for Vitas Hospice managing multiple inpatient units and supporting home hospice patients across the Philadelphia region.
Dr. Liantonio’s academic interests include expanding hospice and palliative medical education, creating and operationalizing palliative care teams, bringing high-quality palliative care services to vulnerable patient populations, and ensuring health equity across the communities he has served. He is thrilled to be joining HMH and expanding palliative care across the network.
