Jersey Shore University Medical Center welcomes Board Certified Neurosurgeon Shabbar F. Danish, M.D., FAANS, as Chair of Neurosurgery as part of the academic medical center’s Neuroscience Institute. Dr. Danish has provided neurosurgical care for patients throughout New Jersey for more than a decade. He specializes in treating patients with complex, adverse spinal and cranial conditions and care for movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and epilepsy.

Some of Dr. Danish’s most notable achievements include pioneering minimally invasive techniques for deep brain stimulation, and he is internationally recognized for his contributions in advancing MRI guided laser therapy. He specializes in brain cancer/tumors, Deep Brain Stimulation, epilepsy, Facial Pain Syndrome, Gamma Knife, laser ablation treatment of brain tumors, movement disorders, including Parkinson’s Disease and spine cancer. 

Dr. Danish previously served as Professor of Neurosurgery, Director of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, Medical Director of the Gamma Knife Center, and Associate Program Director for the neurosurgery residency at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. He has been a member of several major international and national medical committees. Dr. Danish has been the Principal Investigator for many grant awards, has contributed to over a hundred clinical research publications and holds a patent on a clinical software algorithm. 

EDUCATION

Dr. Danish completed his fellowship training in bioengineering, movement disorder and epilepsy and Gamma Knife radiosurgery, as well as residency training in neurosurgery, at the University of Pennsylvania. He also completed fellowship training in neurophysiology at Hospital Nacional de Paraplejicos in Toledo, Spain. Dr. Danish received his medical doctorate at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
