Harriet B. Borofsky, M.D., joins Hackensack Meridian Health as medical director of breast imaging at Riverview and Bayshore Medical Centers after serving as medical director of breast imaging at Mills Peninsula Medical Center, a Sutter Health affiliate, for the past 25 years. Her professional passion is women’s health, focusing on early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer and community outreach.
While caring for patients at Bayshore, Dr. Borofsky will introduce patients to the next generation of 3D-Mammography, Hologic’s Clarity HD with SmartCurve™ breast stabilization system, that not only provides higher resolution images but makes the mammography experience more comfortable for women due to the curved design of the compression paddle. The new system evenly distributes pressure to reduce pinching. According to Hologic®, 80 % of women who delayed their mammogram due to discomfort are less likely to delay future mammograms because of the SmartCurve system.
Dr. Borofsky has implemented many state-of-the-art breast imaging technologies, most recently contrast-enhanced mammography, has written numerous breast health articles, and has presented lectures and Webinars on topics related to the continuum of care in breast imaging. Recently, she served as the principal investigator for the STRIVE STUDY, Grail Medical, Inc, a prospective, multi-institutional cohort study assessing early detection of breast cancer from cancer-specific DNA in blood samples.
She has received the San Francisco Magazine Bay Area Top Doctors award, the Mills-Peninsula Hospital Foundation DeGuigne award, the Making a Difference for Women award from Soroptimist International of Burlingame, and has been named the Mills Peninsula Physician of the Year in 2006. She has served as, Medical Director of Philanthropy, and chair of the Sexual Harassment Task Force at Mills-Peninsula Medical Center. She is currently chair of the National Consortium of Breast Centers breast imaging section for the 2022 annual conference.
