Douglas Miller, M.D.,medical director of Radiation Oncology at Jersey Shore University Medical Center recently spearheaded a multi-institutional clinical trial that investigated the effectiveness of a new medication administered to patients within an hour before radiation treatment to reduce the severity and duration of mucositis in patients receiving treatment for head and neck cancers.
The results from the clinical trial, spearheaded at Jersey Shore University Medical Center was published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology’s October 2019 issue.
The positive findings from this trial have fostered the opening of three new ongoing clinical trials at Jersey Shore to determine whether the same medication can prevent radiation-induced side effects for patients with head and neck or lung cancers.
