David S. Kountz, M.D., MBA, FACP, vice president, Academic Affairs, Jersey Shore University Medical Center; co-chief Academic Officer, Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine at Seton Hall, recently led a major session at the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Annual Meeting and was also installed as chair of the Group on Resident Affairs.

Dr. Kountz served as facilitator for a panel presentation on November 9, 2019 entitled “Integrating a Sustainable Diverse and Inclusive GME Workforce”.  Panelists included Kathy Andolsek, M.D., MPH, assistant dean, Duke University School of Medicine and William McDade, M.D., Ph.D, chief Diversity and Inclusion officer for the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medial Education (ACGME).

Dr. Kountz was a member of a Diversity and Inclusion taskforce at the ACGME which provided recommendations to the ACGME Board of Directors on strategies to ensure that programs, in partnership with its sponsoring institution, engage in systematic recruitment and retention of a diverse workforce of residents, fellows, (if present), faculty members, senior administrative staff members, and other relevant members of its academic community.  As of July 1, 2019, these recommendations are included in the Common Program Requirements for all GME programs.

At the same meeting Dr. Kountz was installed as chair of the Group on Resident Affairs (GRA) of the AAMC.  The GRA represents more than 700 institutional leaders who oversee GME quality, accreditation, administration and financing in AAMC-member medical schools and teaching hospitals.
