Enhancing Our E-Consent Process Across the Network

What You Need To Know

As we continue the successful network-wide expansion of our electronic informed consent (E-Consent) system, we remain committed to continuously improving the platform based on valuable feedback from our teams.

First piloted at Hackensack University Medical Center, the E-Consent system is a critical tool for modernizing our patient care. For sites already using the system and for those who will be soon, it offers significant advantages:
  • Improved Compliance: Enhances adherence to CMS, The Joint Commission, NJ state law and Leapfrog standards.
  • Greater Efficiency: Eliminates hard copy scanning, reduces the potential for errors and saves on costs like paper and printing.
  • Instant Visibility: Approved consents are immediately available in the EMR for all members of the care team to reference.

New Enhancements Now Live

Based on feedback from our physicians and team members, we are excited to announce key upgrades that are now live for all active E-Consent sites. These enhancements make the user experience even more seamless:

  • Streamlined Interpreter Documentation: Interpreter services will now be documented directly on the iPad within the E-Consent application.
  • Optimized Language Support: The language list has been simplified to show the most-used languages at HMH, allowing for faster navigation and selection.
  • Dynamic Signature Fields: The system now automatically adjusts based on the consenting party (e.g., verbal or phone consents), creating the correct signature fields without manual changes.

For hospitals scheduled for future implementation, this demonstrates our commitment to providing you with a refined and powerful tool. We look forward to bringing E-Consent to all our acute care facilities and appreciate the partnership of all our teams in making this initiative a success.
