What You Need To Know
To streamline patient care, Jersey Shore University Medical Center now offers direct EPIC ordering for screening colonoscopies. This allows Hackensack Meridian Health-employed internal medicine and primary care physicians in the south region to order screenings for eligible patients without a GI referral.
Patient Eligibility Criteria: Please confirm your patient meets all of the following requirements before placing an order:
- Age between 45 – 75.
- Independent and able to walk on their own.
- No active cancer that is not in remission or a serious, life-threatening condition.
- No trouble swallowing, anemia, unintentional weight loss, or GI bleeding.
- No history of heart attack, stroke, or stent placement in the last year.
- Not currently undergoing cardiology evaluation or experiencing chest pains or shortness of breath.
- Not on supplemental oxygen.
- Not on medications such as Coumadin (Warfarin), Xarelto (Rivaroxaban), Eliquis (apixaban), Plavix (clopidogrel), or any other blood thinner other than aspirin.
- No allergy to anesthesia or past issues with anesthesia.
How to Order (For Physicians): If your patient meets the above criteria, please place a direct screening colonoscopy order in EPIC following these instructions.
