Epic Action Alert: Preferred Name Addition to Patient Wristbands and Epic on March 18

Published:
March 8, 2024

What You Need To Know

What: Beginning Monday, March 18, 2024, clinicians will begin seeing the patient’s preferred name in addition to the patient’s legal name on wristbands and in clinical workspaces in Epic. This change applies to both adult and pediatric patients but will not impact newborns.

  • Changes will appear in clinical storyboards, ED track boards, patient list columns, and scheduling views.
  • The preferred name will not display in downstream systems.
  • The preferred name will not display in billing or release of information workflows.
  • On wristbands, the preferred name will be bolded above the legal name.
  • There is no anticipated downtime or actions required by team members.
