Changes to Admission Observation and Transfer Orders

Published:
February 21, 2022

Beginning Tuesday, February 22, Epic admission, observation, and transfer orders will see the following changes:

  • "Diagnosis" and "Special Needs" will be required.
  • "Bed Type" options have been updated for each hospital location.
  • "Level of Care" will no longer be included as it is now redundant with "Bed Type."
  • Telemetry will no longer be indicated using "Bed Type"; instead it can be documented in the "Special Needs" field. As before, if a telemetry bed is selected, a telemetry order also needs to be entered.

These changes will lead to fewer clicks and alerts for the ordering provider, ensure the necessary information for bed planning, coding, and billing is included, and standardize the orders across the network.
