Due to the widespread increase in COVID-19 infection across the rest of the
country, there is now a severe shortage of SARS-CoV-2 rapid testing kits. As a result, the laboratory may reflex to Biofire’s Respiratory Panel ver 2.1, which contains a PCR test for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 viral RNA, if the usual testing methodology is unavailable.
This will initially go live at Hackensack University Medical Center, Jersey Shore University Medical Center, and JFK Medical Center, with additional sites to roll out in the coming weeks.
Location of SARS-CoV-2 results
If you have placed an order for a diagnostic (PCR) SARS-CoV-2 test and do not see the result in the typical location, look for the result under the test “RPP BY PCR” with the component “SARS-COV-2”. If the patient is positive for SARS-CoV-2, an infection control flag will automatically be triggered.
