Southern Region Epic Highlights October 25

Updated:
November 9, 2023

What you need to know

Educational materials can only be accessed when on the HMH network or are available in your Epic Learning Home Dashboard.

Friday, October 25, will be the final day for the go live command center at IWW and the last Daily Status Update.

Although the physical command center is closing, project leadership will continue to monitor ticket volume, work with the application teams to prioritize issues, and track progress towards resolution. All team members and providers should continue to contact the Help Desk at x3333 to log tickets.

- When submitting issues, please communicate the urgency of the issue, especially if it affects patient care.
- Non-urgent issues can be sent to the Help Desk by emailing ITServiceDesk@hackensackmeridian.org
or via the self-service portal.

Alerts will continue to be distributed as needed and posted on the Epic Resource Center Go Live
page.

Today's Go Live Reminders

Consult Learning Home Dashboard

Remember to check your Learning Home Dashboard regularly for updates and new training material. Access it by going to My Dashboard activity and search for Learning Home Dashboard(s).

How to Manually Correct Charting Errors

Users are able to correct many errors they have introduced into a chart without opening a ticket by consulting the HMH Manual Chart Correction Guide when the error is made. If you are unable to correct an error outlined in the guide, open a ticket with Chart Correction via the Help Desk or the Self-Service Portal.

A link to the guide is available on your Learning Home Dashboard in Epic.

Orders Blood Products Ordering

When Ordering Blood, you must select both a product prepare order for the blood bank and a transfuse order for the nurse. Order sets include these and other transfusion-related labs and medications.

In Epic, Type and Screen, Crossmatch, and Transfuse are distinct and separate orders.

If the patient presents without a historical blood type on file, an additional ABO/Rh order will be required.

Review the Application: Orders Blood Products Ordering Knowledge Builder for specific instructions.

Cytology Orders

Cytology Orders are now electronic and must be placed in Epic.

Steps Necessary for Discharge

Patients cannot be discharged until the Admit Order has been cosigned and medication reconciliation has been completed. Please review the knowledge materials for more information and instruction:

  • Orders: Medication Reconciliation
  • Physician Documentation: Cosign Admit Orders
  • Make Discharge Med Rec Easier by Completing Admission Med Rec

EKG Orders

EKG Orders must to be placed in Epic by the provider. Without an order in Epic, users may experience a delay in seeing the result post to Epic.

Managing Your InBasket

In order to provide the best patient care and provider efficiency, you will need to check your InBasket at least once a day. The InBasket is the center for all your working and worked items as well as communications from colleagues, lab, and clerical staff. Everything comes through your InBasket including dictation for review, radiology results, lab results, prescription requests from clinical staff, CDI queries from HIM, and encounters for you to review and approve.

If you would like additional providers in your group to review results of if you are going to be out of office, you can assign delegates through InBasket to allow more Providers to see your communications.

Review the Top Efficiency Tips Quick Start Guide for detailed instruction and more information.
