Please find below the NJDOH vector-borne surveillance report for week 37.
Report highlights:
- New Jersey is reporting 12 additional West Nile Virus (WNV) cases this week, for a total of 18 WNV cases in 10 counties and four presumptive viremic blood donors (PVD). The number of reported cases in recent weeks is higher than average.
- Since last week’s report, 71 additional mosquito pools tested positive for WNV, for a total of 1,133 positive pools, which is higher than historical trends. The cumulative minimum infection rate is highest in Mercer and Hudson counties. The average number of Culex mosquitoes, which are associated with WNV transmission, is highest in Salem and Bergen counties.
- One mosquito pool tested positive for La Crosse virus in Sussex County in week 36.
- There were no new mosquito detections of Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) or Jamestown Canyon virus (JCV) this week. To date, one mosquito pool has tested positive for EEE and five pools have tested positive for JCV. No human or animal cases have been reported in 2026.
- The number of tick-related emergency department visits increased this week and is higher than historical averages.
