Please find below the NJDOH vector-borne surveillance report for week 33.
Report highlights:
- One human case of West Nile Virus (WNV) was reported in Monmouth County in week 32 and there have been two reported presumptive viremic donors (PVD).
- Since last week’s report, 84 additional mosquito pools tested positive for WNV, for a total of 650 positive pools. The cumulative minimum infection rate is highest in Hudson and Bergen counties.
- The average number of Culex mosquitoes, which are associated with WNV transmission, was highest in Hudson County.
- One mosquito pool tested positive for Jamestown Canyon Virus (JCV) in week 33 from Middlesex County bringing the total this year to two. No human JCV cases have been reported in New Jersey in 2026 to date.
- There have been no human or animal cases, or mosquito detections of Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) in 2026.
- The number of Lyme disease cases reported this week continues to be below historical averages.
- The number of tick-related emergency department visits continued to decrease and remains consistent with historical averages.
