Please find below the NJDOH vector-borne surveillance report for week 29.

Report highlights:

  • Sixty-nine additional mosquito pools tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV) since last week’s report. Two hundred and twenty-seven mosquitoes have tested positive to date in 2026 from eighteen counties. Mosquito detections this year are higher than historical averages.
  • The average number of Culex mosquitoes, which are associated with WNV transmission, was highest in Bergen and Hudson counties.
  • There have been no human or animal cases of WNV in 2026. There have been no human, animal, or mosquito detections of Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) or Jamestown Canyon virus (JCV) in 2026.
  • The number of Lyme disease cases continued to decrease this week and remains below historical averages.
  • The number of tick-related emergency department visits decreased slightly this week but is above historical averages.
