What You Need To Know
Please find attached the NJDOH vector-borne surveillance report for week 28.
Report highlights:
- Seventy-four additional mosquito pools tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV) since last week’s report. One hundred and fifty-eight mosquitoes have tested positive to date in 2026 from eighteen counties.
- The average number of Culex mosquitoes, which are associated with WNV transmission, was highest in Hudson, Bergen, and Salem counties.
- There have been no human or animal cases of WNV in 2026. There have been no human, animal, or mosquito detections of Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) or Jamestown Canyon virus (JCV) in 2026.
- The number of Lyme disease cases this week decreased and is below historical averages.
- The number of tick-related emergency department visits decreased slightly this week but remains consistent with historical averages.
