What You Need To Know

Please find attached the NJDOH vector-borne surveillance report for week 24.

Report highlights:

  • Six additional mosquito pools tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV) since last week’s report.  Twenty-five mosquitos have tested positive to date in 2026 from ten counties.
  • The average number of Culex mosquitoes, which are associated with WNV transmission, was highest in Union and Salem counties.
  • There have been no human or animal cases of WNV in 2026.  There have been no human, animal, or mosquito detections of Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) or Jamestown Canyon virus (JCV) in 2026.
  • The number of Lyme disease cases this week decreased and is below historical averages.
  • The number of tick-related emergency department visits remained level this week but remains above historical averages.
