Please find below the NJDOH vector-borne surveillance report for week 44.
Report highlights:
- This is the final week of mosquito testing. While some additional test results may be pending, in the absence of notable events, this will be the final weekly report for 2025. The public dashboard will continue to be updated weekly, and a 2025 summary report will be posted online..
- There are no new human cases of locally acquired mosquito-borne diseases, detections in mosquitoes, or animal cases this week.
- For West Nile Virus (WNV) activity, there have been 21 human cases, most recently in week 39; three presumptive viremic blood donors (PVD); and 1,159 positive mosquito pools. There were no WNV-positive animals or birds reported in 2025.
- For Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) activity, there were no reported human cases in 2025; one equine case reported in Burlington County in week 42; and 20 positive mosquito pools, 60% of which were in Atlantic County.
- Other notable activity included one suspect locally acquired case of malaria reported in Morris County; one Jamestown Canyon Virus (JCV) case reported in Middlesex County and five JCV positive mosquito pools; and two La Crosse virus positive mosquito pools in Sussex County.
- Several tick-borne disease cases have exceeded 2024 levels. The number of tick-related emergency department visits declined this week and is below the 5-year average.
