The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently released updated respiratory virus guidance for non-healthcare settings. NJDOH guidance is currently under review. Below please find the COVID-19 and Respiratory Illness Activity Report. This report summarizes surveillance information for COVID-19, RSV, and other non-influenza viral respiratory illnesses.
Report Highlights:
- For the week ending May 4, 2024, the weekly average percentage of inpatient beds occupied by COVID-19 patients in NJ was 0.8% (CDC COVID Data Tracker).
- The weekly average percentage of ICU beds occupied by COVID-19 patients was 0.5% (CDC COVID Data Tracker).
- In the four weeks leading up to May 4th, JN.1 accounted for 30.2% of sequenced variants and JN.1.13 and JN.1.7 accounted for 23.3% and 14.0% of sequenced variants.
- RSV percent positivity & percentage of emergency department visits with a diagnosis of RSV are low and stable.
- For the week ending May 4, 2024, zero COVID-19 outbreaks and one non-flu viral respiratory disease outbreak were reported into the SIC module by K-12 schools.
